Data Element: Drug Class Allergy Intolerance (Draft V6)
Recommendation: Add Medication Reference Terminology (MED-RT) as an Applicable Vocabulary Standard to the Drug Class Allergy Intolerance data element in final USCDI V6.
Rationale: The PACIO Project Community* recommends adding Medication Reference Terminology (MED-RT) as an Applicable Vocabulary Standard to the Drug Class Allergy Intolerance data element in final USCDI V6. MED-RT includes native pharmacologic classification concepts (e.g. mechanisms of action (MoA), physiologic effects (PE), Established Pharmacologic Class (EPC)) and all relationships asserted between concepts in any namespace. MED-RT incorporates the following terminologies: RxNorm, MeSH, SNOMED CT.
* The PACIO (Post-Acute Care Interoperability) Project, established February 2019, is a collaborative effort between industry, government, and other stakeholders, with the goal of establishing a framework for the development of FHIR implementation guides to facilitate health information exchange.
