The health IT landscape has changed considerably since the HITECH Act. The Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap is now front and center and we’re in a period of transition prompted by MACRA. We have also seen exciting and impactful industry work take shape like the development of HL7® FHIR® and the Argonaut Project. To continue to ensure that our work is aligned and connected to these changes, we will be working with you to adapt and evolve ONC’s standards and technology work processes.

Today, ONC released the 2016 Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA)—a coordinated catalog of existing and emerging standards and implementation specifications developed and used to meet specific interoperability needs. I know you might be wondering, “what’s next?” now that ONC’s 2015 Edition final rule has formally published in the Federal Register.
This milestone kicks off the next phase of our work to implement the 2015 Edition’s regulatory requirements. Starting next week and over the next few weeks, ONC will be releasing two types of documents to immediately help jumpstart health IT development efforts to the 2015 Edition.
