Amy Zimmerman serves as RI’s State HIT Coordinator at the RI Executive Offices of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). In this capacity Amy is responsible for overseeing the ongoing development and implementation of RI’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) by its State’s Designated Entity, overseeing the state’s Medicaid EHR incentive program, and facilitating and coordinating numerous state agencies involvement in HIE and EHR efforts. Amy also serves as EOHHS’s representative to a number of other related health information technology projects such as the development of the states all payer claims database (APCD), State Innovation Model planning activities (SIM) and other health care reform initiatives.
Prior to this, Amy worked for the Rhode Island Department of Health for over 24 years in a variety of capacities including serving as the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Chief of Health Information Technology focusing on HIE, EHR, ERX, etc. Prior to taking on HIT work, she served as the Chief, Office of Children’s Preventive Services where she was responsible for the development, implementation, and operations of KIDSNET (RI’s an integrated child health information system which includes the state’s immunization registry) as well as having oversight responsibility for numerous maternal and child health programs including Newborn blood spot, hearing and developmental screening Programs, and the Childhood Lead Poisoning, Immunization and home visiting programs.
Amy has a Master of Public health from the University of North Carolina
