Dr. Sharfstein is the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene for the State of Maryland. He was appointed by the Governor of Maryland, and his responsibilities include Medicaid, behavioral health, and public health in the state. Previously, he was Principal Deputy Commissioner at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where he led efforts on performance management and transparency. He holds a Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School, where he was the recipient of the Rose Seegal Award for Research, the Community Service Award, and the Robert H. Ebert Prize in Primary Care; his B.A. was earned from Harvard College.
