Critical Outcomes of the Readiness Assessment Phase
In the readiness assessment phase, you will determine if your organization is ready to make the change from paper records to an electronic health record (EHR) system or to upgrade your current EHR system to a certified EHR system. At the end of the readiness assessment phase, however, you may determine your organization is not yet ready for EHR implementation. You may need more time to:
- Learn about health IT and EHRs
- Designate a leadership team for the EHR implementation process
- Increase buy-in across your organization and develop a shared vision
- Set measurable, quantifiable, and realistic goals
When your organization is ready, you should begin planning your approach.
Your Local Regional Extension Center Can Help
Your local Regional Extension Center (REC) can help you as you assess your readiness and prepare for EHR implementation. RECs are located in every region of the country to help health care providers select, implement, and become adept and meaningful users of EHRs. Contact your local REC to find out if you are eligible for free or reduced-price EHR implementation support.
