Marie DeSisto is an innovator when it comes to electronic health records (EHRs) and improving health care in schools. Thanks to her efforts, school nurses in Waltham, MA, are linked by an EHR system that helps them serve students in ways that go far beyond the basics. Just one example: EHR data on student obesity convinced budget-conscious administrators not to eliminate recess.

Last year, the annual HIMSS conference drew record-breaking crowds with more than 30,000 people from around the country gathered to learn about the latest health information technology (health IT) and to share ideas and experiences. Electronic health records (EHRs), meaningful use, and how to use technology to improve care dominated the schedule. Presentations by ONC staff were among the best attended.
