Top Takeaways from the TEFCA Recognition Event

It’s hard to convey the excitement that was in the HHS Great Hall during the TEFCASM Recognition Event on February 13, 2023. It was great to see so many gather with HHS Secretary Becerra to recognize the six applicant organizations that have been approved for onboarding as Qualified Health Information NetworksTM (QHINTM)—CommonWell Health Alliance, eHealth Exchange, Epic TEFCA Interoperability Services, Health Gorilla, Kno2, and KONZA.
It was a special opportunity to acknowledge the benefits of public-private partnership and to hear first-hand just what this milestone event means for individuals across the country.
Input on Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, made transparent by ONC

We promised that the journey for drafting the nationwide interoperability roadmap would be collaborative and transparent, and today we are posting public summaries from a number of in-person meetings we held. ONC used a variety of channels to work collaboratively with and accept feedback from stakeholders as we developed the draft roadmap we posted earlier. These included meetings with industry subject matter experts (SMEs) and state health IT leaders.

A coalition of states, in partnership with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, successfully completed a pilot project for the interstate exchange of electronic behavioral health data using Direct. This activity illuminated some of the real challenges with using Direct, both technical and operational, but ultimately demonstrated that such exchanges can be performed.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) created popHealth in 2010 as open source software that could import data, then calculate, display, and export electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs). As of December 2013, thanks to the hard work of Northwestern University , popHealth is now certified as a 2014 edition electronic health record module (CHPL Product Number: CC-2014-781600-3 ).
