The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has updated the Certified Health IT Product List’s (CHPL) landing page. The update includes several enhancements making it easier to access data about 2014 Edition and 2015 Edition certified health IT products. Below the main search box, we have added (and will continue to add) resource shortcuts that quickly take you to specific information within the CHPL.

For instance, before the update, in order to see all of the certified products with a non-conformity found through surveillance, one would have needed to build a search filter in the CHPL and then drill down into the details of each product individually. Now, you can click on that resource shortcut to get a full, sortable listing of certified products with identified non-conformities and the number of open and closed non-conformities associated with those products. By clicking on the product details you can review the “corrective action plan” associated with the non-conformity (once it is approved by the ONC-Authorized Certification Body or ONC).

Similarly, the other new resource shortcut relates to application programming interfaces (APIs). The 2015 Edition includes three specific certification criteria that require API functionality. Importantly, the certification criteria also require that the technical documentation and terms of use for the APIs be made publicly available via a hyperlink.  Now, when you click on the new resource shortcut you will get a list of all of the 2015 Edition products that have been certified to one or more of the API-oriented certification criteria, a link to the technical documentation, and a link to the full set of mandatory product disclosures the ONC Health IT Certification Program requires. As more health IT products are certified to these API criteria this resource shortcut will be your “go-to” source for a global view of certified product API documentation.

The updated CHPL resource shortcuts will enable providers, 3^rd party app developers, and other stakeholders to better engage with the rich and informative data reported through the certification process.  If you have an idea for a CHPL resource shortcut, or other CHPL related feedback of inquiries, please submit them to ONC_CHPL@hhs.gov.
