Submission of Electronic Data to Immunization Registries - The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology

MU Stage 2 IIS Requirements and Standards

MU Stage 2 Requirements for IIS

1 of 14

The immunization objective moved from a Menu set item for EP/EH/CAH in Stage 1 to a Core objective for EP/EH/CAH in Stage 2. Stage 1 only required a single test with ongoing submission if the test was successful; however, Stage 2 requires ongoing submission.

Because MU Stage 2 requires ongoing submission and the measure is now Core for EPs and EHs, PHAs need to be prepared to onboard many more providers. EPs and EHs need to be prepared for new clinical workflows to support ongoing submission. The table below provides more information on the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2.

Public Health – Immunization Objective and Measure
Public Health Immunization Objective (EP/EH/CAHs)
No change from MU Stage 1 to Stage 2: Capability to submit electronic data to immunization registries or the IIS and actual submission, except where prohibited and in accordance with applicable law and practice
Note: In Stage 1, immunization was a Menu set objective for EPs and EH/CAHs; however, in Stage 1, EPs had to select at least one public health objective out of the Menu set objectives. Since most PHAs could not support the syndromic surveillance objective in MU Stage 1, most EPs had to select the immunization objective.
MU Stage 1 Measure (EP/EH/CAHs) MU Stage 2 Measure (EP/EH/CAHs)
Performed at least one test of certified electronic health record technology's (CEHRT) capacity to submit electronic data to immunization registries and follow-up submission if the test is successful (unless none of the immunization registries to which the EP submits such information have the capacity to receive the information electronically) Successful ongoing submission of electronic immunization data from CEHRT to an immunization registry or an IIS for the entire EHR reporting period
