What is a Patient Portal?

1 of 4

Patient portals are health care-related online applications, which are typically associated with EHRs that allow patients to interact and communicate with their doctors or provider organization(s).

Some portals are independent websites marketed directly to health care providers, while others are either integrated in the provider EHR or part of an existing website of a health care provider. These systems provide the ability for patients to interact with their medical information from home or any location with access to the Internet.
