Providers select the drug to be prescribed from a menu in the EHR
- Question 2 of 4: Are you able to find all the drug description names that you want to prescribe within your e-prescribing system?
- Response: Most EHR vendors depend on third party commercial drug database compendia for their drug terminology and clinical decision needs. If you are experiencing problems finding drug description listings then you should contact your clinical and IT staff or EHR vendor to ask how drug database files are updated at your practice site. While some EHR vendor systems seamlessly update their e-prescribing module to ensure it is current, there are others that require the end users to regularly download and update their medication databases. If manual updating is required, practices should develop policies and procedures that assign staff to ensure updates get applied on the most frequently provided update schedule from your data source provider.
