Provider reviews warnings such as duplicate therapy or drug-drug interactions, and other messages, as well as formulary status and drug benefits
- Question 2 of 2: Is your system able to check patient benefit eligibility and formulary status electronically?
- Response: If you are using an ONC certified health IT product, then you should be able to receive patient eligibility and formulary status. If you are not able to retrieve this information for your patients then you should contact your clinical and IT staff or EHR vendor to ensure you are on the right software version and request that your staff be trained on these functionalities. Reviewing patient formulary/eligibility information helps prescribers to ensure that selected medications are covered by the patient’s health plan; meet therapeutic guidelines and identify medications that may require prior authorization. This can also reduce callbacks to your practice from pharmacies with eligibility or prescription benefit related questions.
