State Health Information Exchange

State HIE Programmatic Priorities

The immediate priority of the State HIE program is to ensure that all eligible providers in every state have options to meet the health information exchange (HIE) requirements of Stage 1 Meaningful Use – including those for e-prescribing, receiving structured electronic lab results and sharing care summaries. Accordingly, states and state-designated entities (SDEs) outlined in their Strategic and Operational Plans a concrete and feasible plan to enable the following HIE capabilities:

Lab Exchange

Care Summary Exchange

The computer-based electronic generation, transmission and filling of a medical prescription. Sending and receiving clinical lab test results into an EHR as structured data. Enable patient care summary exchange across unaffiliated organizations.
