Comment

CDC's comment on behalf of CSTE for USCDI v5

CSTE supports inclusion of job/workplace employer name and address, job title, job/workplace location, and job/workplace phone number. All of these are important for outbreak detection and investigation. Also, since people often have more than one job, multiple job/workplaces should be able to be captured and exchanged. Often it is useful to have a work phone number in order to reach a patient for an urgent interview by public health.

CDC's Consolidated Comment

  • CDC requests that Employer Address be considered for USCDI V3, along with Employer Name. Both are needed to ensure correct identification of the employer. Together they support faster recognition of infectious disease outbreaks at work and can provide the first clues to identifying new relationships between work and health. The level of effort to implement is low, since many EHRs already collect this information for administrative purposes and it is represented in key interoperability standards.
