Your Local Regional Extension Center Can Help

Even if your organization has an existing IT system, your organization should contact your local Regional Extension Center (REC). You may still need support in achieving meaningful use to receive incentive payments, and vendor resources may be stretched as more and more providers implement electronic health records (EHRs). The REC’s role is as an unbiased advisor for all phases of EHR implementation and compliments the vendor’s role of helping your organization implement and service a specific EHR system. Your local REC can:

  • Help your organization ensure your existing system meets the required criteria for meaningful use or help you upgrade to a certified EHR that will enable you to achieve meaningful use in Stage 1 and subsequent Stages. Check the Certified Health IT Product List to see if your EHR system is certified by an Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology-Authorized Testing and Certification Body.
  • Help you evaluate your current workflows to ensure your existing EHR system is optimized to meet meaningful use requirements, qualify for incentive payments, and improve health care quality.
  • Evaluate all areas of your organization to discover how you could expand your use of the EHR system by implementing technologies such as electronic laboratory interfaces and e-prescribing.
